Bunnings expanded its presence in Waikato through the opening of a multi-million-dollar store in South Hamilton.
Built on peat, the build required a structural slab design to support its weight. The building is formed from 300 tonnes of structural steel, 150 concrete precast panels and 5000 cubic metres of concrete. It has a total floor area of more than 11,340m2 which includes the main store, indoor timber trade sales area, building materials, a landscape supplies yard and outdoor nursery.
Energy and water-saving design features were incorporated in the design. LED lighting and rainwater tanks used to irrigate the nursery and service amenities.
