As part of an upgrade of the Pukeiti Gardens, the Taranaki Regional Council led a complete rebuild of the Pukeiti Lodge. The original lodge, built in the 1950s, was in poor condition and it was recommended the lodge was completely rebuilt rather than refurbished. Livingstone Building were engaged to complete the new build, which became a focal point for visitors to the gardens. Designed by BOON Architects, the brief was to replicate the look and feel of the original building as much as possible.
The project involved a rebuild of the partially demolished lodge. The new lodge holds multiple function spaces, a boardroom, Member’s Lounge, commercial kitchen and toilet and shower facilities. The design incorporated local Taranaki Riverstone to complete and match the existing stone colonnade, and to clad the exterior fireplace chimney and interior fireplace front.
